always protested (you could use had or has to imply he used to or he used to and still does, so I would drop the had)
well, it sounds as though you are trying to be a pirate in 1 and 2.
3. should be (began) rather than start
4. doesnt make much sense unless you were to add extra info to the sentence
5. sounds ok, but instead of using copy try other words such as mimic etc
6.brought out or released sounds better
7. he (decided) to plan..
8. sounds fine, but instead of protest wouldnt it be grammatically correct if it were (protests)??
