the steps in getting to the northern part of the Uk from Chichester , United Kingdom?
I am new to the United kingdom (less than 3 months), I live in Chichester.
(1) people told me if i wish to go to the northern part of England, i have to go by train to London Victoria train station first and then walk to another train station to travel to northern part of England, true?
(2) please tell me the steps, which station is for the northern part of England? how to get to there from London victoria train station?
(3) how much time needed : from london victoria train station to the ? train station for travelling north?
(4) i need to come back to Chichester on the same day. So i need to catch the first train to London and then go to the station for travelling north and then be back to London victoria station to catch the last train back to Chichester. Is it too complicated? and Is it possible? I dont mind only sightseeing for a few hours in northern part of England.
i am only on my own, i dont want to book a hotel and stay overnight , so have to come home on the same day.
(5) i dont want to join local tour because I dont know which tour:
has hotel accomodation, a tourist guide included in the whole package, if they have, i would join, but most trips are more than 4 days to northern part , true?
I have limitations; I only have 3 days for travelling every time and i need to catch the last train back to Chichester. I need single room. so it is diffcult for me to find such tour, if anyone knows , please give me direct links.
(6) please answer the above questions point by point so as to let me understand easier since i am not an native english speaker.

You’ll have to get a train to Victoria (about 1hr 45 mins), then a tube to King’s Cross and from there a train up north (probably about 3 hours, depending on where you’re going).
You’ll struggle to get back to Chichester on the same day, I think. You’d be far better off staying in a bed and breakfast and coming home the next day.
First, and most importantly, define what you mean by the northern part of the UK. A reasonable definition might be ‘everywhere north of a line from Liverpool to Hull’. Other people might say everywhere north of Carlisle. If you include Northern Ireland in your definition, then your chances of making it from Chichester and back, in a day, are poor to nonexistent. You might try Liverpool, or Manchester. 0r Leeds, or York. All big cities with a good fast train service from London (first two from Euston, last two from Kings Cross). Scotland? Just feasible, but a long day. and that’s just to Glasgow or Edinburgh. http://www.thetrainline.com will give you times, routes and fares. Use the Underground to travel between stations in London.
The UK is England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland altogether,
The UK is not just England,
Are you one of those people who only calls England the UK?
1. and 2. depends whereabouts in the north you want to go, it would probably be either Euston (for the western part of the north), or Kings Cross (for the eastern) … either of these are easy to get to, take the Victoria line underground from Victoria train station … both are too far to walk … have a look at the London underground map
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/standard-tube-map.pdf
3. it’s a very easy short journey on the underground … the Victoria underground station is right outside the Victoria train station and the journey to Euston or Kings Cross would take 10-15 minutes … again both of these underground stations are right next to the train stations, very easy to transfer
4. if you need to do this as a day trip you will find this hard going … depends how far north you want to go … there are very fast trains to places like Birmingham, Manchester, York etc but having to travel via London will all take time and you would spend most of the day travelling and not much time at your destination
5. you could do a tour package, but if you’re prepared to research and learn about your destination there’s no reason why you couldn’t do your own thing, probably a lot cheaper
you will find that travelling by train before 10.00 a.m. will be very expensive because this is the time all the business people travel and the cheap train tickets are not usually available until after 10.00 a.m.
instead of going by train, have you thought of flying? there is a good airport at Southampton … this would save you a lot of time and need not be more expensive than the train … have a look at
http://www.flybe.com/?WT.mc_id=cj1.&AID=10297693&PID=543106&SID=NewSouthamptonAirport
you could really go far north in a short time and you could search for a cheap fare … you could fly to Inverness, Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland, or Manchester and Newcastle in England … I would very much recommend Edinburgh, which is a great city
you could also look at hostels or cheaper hotels like Travelodge for cheap accommodation as you will get much more out of your trip if you could stay overnight
